Posts Reach Out - A History of Byron Bay

Posts Reach Out, Hi Guys,

our family has been a part of Byron Bay for over 100 years and we now have a website and 2 Airbnb’s on the block where our Heritage Listed House is located on Shirley Street, not far from the house in Shirley Lane where my wife, wife’s mother and Grand Mother grew up over the last 100 plus years and is used regularly now by the 5th generation.

We were there when the sand mining was happening, and the radioactive sand was being collected to support the USA’s atomic bomb project and when the abattoir was in full production and Byron Bay was a small smelly place 4 or 5 hours from Brisbane that no one actually went there for their holidays, rather only to work.

We are now writing blog posts about Byron Bay’s history and things to do there now and …

The Posts are hosted on the Byronstay.com.au/Posts website. If you are interested in seeing where we are currently at.

The plan now

The plan now is to write some more history posts about where we have come from and include information about the businesses that have come and perhaps now gone, but hopefully are continuing to trade and thrive in the modern Byron Bay.

How we’ve gone from a small smelly costal village. That was actually initially only accessible by boat to the current International must visit destination. And rite of passage place for young Australian’s to visit.

If you would like us to include you, your family, your Business in one or more of our posts. We would be more than happy to do that.

If you can reply to this email with information about when your family first arrived in Byron Bay and/or nearby town or village. The business they set up, how it went, perhaps how it continues to go today. We will incorporate your information in one or more of our Posts.

If you are someone or know someone who is iconic (very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions or a particular time) with regard to Byron Bay please include information about them.

If you know someone who might be able to add additional information. Please forward this information to them.

Thank you,

Take care.

Jim and Colleen.
